Use a vinegar and water solution to clean your menstrual sponge. Vinegar acts as a disinfectant and can help kill bacteria. Here are instructions for cleaning with vinegar:
-
Mix the solution: Mix 1 part vinegar (apple cider vinegar is best) with 10 parts water to make a diluted vinegar solution. You can use a small bowl to prepare the solution.
-
Soaking: Dip the menstrual sponge into the vinegar solution. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes.
-
Rinse: After soaking, rinse the sponge thoroughly with clean, cold water to remove any vinegar residue.
- Insertion: Insert the wet, soft sponge like a tampon. Take a few times to understand how deep you need to insert the sponge.
- Changing: Remove the full sponge, rinse it first with cold water, then with warm water and simply reinsert it.
-
Drying: Allow the sponge to dry in a clean, ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight as this can shorten the life of the sponge.
Make sure you dilute the vinegar solution properly to avoid damaging the sponge. Regularly cleaning with vinegar can help keep your menstrual sponge hygienic.
How to remove the sponge:
- Assume a relaxed position. At first, it might be good to squat in the shower. In a deep squat, you can go as deep as possible if you need to.
- Press the sponge with 2 fingers. We recommend using your index and middle fingers.
- You can push the sponge closer to your fingers, just like when you have a bowel movement.
- If it doesn't work right away, relax. Nothing can get lost inside you. Try again in an hour.
