Use a vinegar and water solution to clean your menstrual sponge. Vinegar has a disinfectant effect and can help kill bacteria. Here is a guide to cleaning with vinegar:

  • Mix the solution: Mix 1 part vinegar (apple cider vinegar is best) with 10 parts water to make a diluted vinegar solution. You can use a small bowl to prepare the solution.

  • Dipping: Dip the menstrual sponge into the vinegar solution. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes.

  • Rinse: After soaking, rinse the sponge thoroughly with clean, cold water to remove any vinegar residue.

  • Insertion: Insert the wet, soft sponge like a tampon. Take a few times to understand how deep you need to insert the sponge.
  • Change: Remove the full sponge, rinse it first with cold water, then warm water and simply reinsert it.
  • Drying: Allow the sponge to dry in a clean, ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight as this can shorten the lifespan of the sponge.

Make sure you dilute the vinegar solution properly to avoid damaging the sponge. Regular cleaning with vinegar can help maintain the hygiene of your menstrual sponge.

How to remove the sponge:

  • Assume a relaxed posture. At first it might be good to sit in the shower. A deep squat allows you to reach the deepest position if necessary.
  • Key with 2 fingers after the sponge. We recommend index and middle fingers.
  • You can move the sponge closer to your fingers by pushing it, like when defecating.
  • If it doesn't work right away: Relax. Nothing can be lost in you. Try again in an hour.
